Three main soil types are identified;

  • Sandy clay or ferritic soils
  • Sandy loam soils,
  • Alluvial deposits

Ferallitic soils are predominantly found around the mountainous parts of the sub-region where
bases are migrated out of the soil by rainfall and other weathering processes, leaving behind a
high concentration of sesquioxides.
Alluvial soils in the area are formed as a result of the sweeping of materials from highland and
their subsequent deposition in plains and valleys such as the Mbaw plain. Due to their rich
nature, these soils have great agricultural potential, permitting the cultivation of low-altitude
crops like oil palms and rice
